Begin again

A week ago (tomorrow) we pulled out of our driveway in Clinton, MS and embarked on our new adventure. We left Clinton at 5AM Friday to try to beat the gas company to our new home and unfortunately missed him by 30 minutes. I will never understand why companies give you such a broad time range (8AM-5PM) and then get mad at you when you aren’t available 30 minutes from the time you receive an unexpected automated call. That was a pointless headache but we paid the extra money and had hot water by the end of the day.

We spent the day unloading the moving truck (with the help of my sis and bro-in-law ::praise hands::) and even had our neighbor pop by to offer a hand to help as well! If there’s one thing that has surprised me the most so far it is the genuine kindness of those around us. My girls and our niece put on a lemonade stand Tuesday morning and received so much support from our neighbors. Not only our neighbors, they had 3 people that were driving by stop to support them! It was honestly just the sweetest beginning to our time here.

We’ve spent the week getting used to our new normal. We are all home all day long and trying to keep the kids quiet so that Chris can work has been a bit of a challenge. I’ve spent a lot of the time trying to unpack boxes and make this place feel like a home — for the next year at least. We try to take a field trip of some sort each day even if it’s just to the grocery store. Our family is heading out of town this weekend though and so that will make next week a short work week.

All in all, we have enjoyed our first week as Texans. Which leads into a surprise announcement! I’m excited to join the contributor team for East Texas Moms Blog¬†starting this August. I ran across ETMB while researching Tyler at the beginning of the year. The founder of ETMB ran an open call for contributors on Instagram and I reached out to her. I was a guest contributor on the blog in February but didn’t speak about it because we hadn’t announced our plans to leave Mississippi at that point. Now that we have made the transition to Tyler, I am so excited to join this great group of ladies! I was able to attend my first contributor meet-up at Cotton Patch Cafe and loved having the opportunity to meet the team. img_5767-e1496979807735.jpg

We’ll be gone on vacation this weekend but I’ll be back with a new post next week! Hugs!
